“Up and About“ was the name of an assignment given by the Department for
Industrial Design at the Stuttgarter National Academy of Visual Arts under
Professor Richard Sapper. The two Masters of Engineering, Markus Hampe
and Gerald Winkler, while furthering their studies in Industrial Design took the subject matter literally and developed along with the Product Designer
Barbara Romberg within a half year the first fully functional prototype of the
wall climbing machine, the "gekkomat".

Under Gerald Winkler's direction, the prototype is tested exhaustively on
bridge columns, chimneys, building walls and surfaces of all types in
order to systematically develop a safe High-Tech Product. He is owner of the international patents and contact person:
